To all our members and those interested in our industry, Please excuse the infrequency of our updates on our activities. It’s not for lack of action. In addition to the rallies, which many of you have attended, TMODA has had meetings with the TLC on driver fatigue rules, wheelchair accessibility rules, inspection requirements, vehicle retirement and vehicle choice rules. As we are about to have a citywide election this fall, we expect to continue laying out our views, interests and a plan for what needs to be done. Issues we feel need to be addressed: 50% wheelchair accessibility for ALL for hire vehicles. TMODA has formed a Coalition with NYETA (New Yorkers for Equal Transportation Access) to promote the interests of the disabled as we are the go to option for those who need wheelchair accessible vehicles. Accessoride must give trips to our wheelchair accessible vehicles and end their practice of dispatching trips to app companies and others who do not provide wheelchair accessible vehicles. Black and livery cars should pay for the negative externalities they cause, such as pollution, congestion, accidents, discouragement of use of public transport. Zero tolerance for illegal activities by TLC licensed and unlicensed vehicles. Geofencing for upstate vehicles so that they will not be able to pick up on NYC. TPEP in ALL for hire vehicles. It’s a matter of public safety. Enforcement of ALL TLC rules. Moratorium on foreclosures. Where do yellow and green cabs fit in the autonomous future. What can you do? It’s an election year. Get in touch with those who are running. Make your views known. Remember that a small contribution goes a long way because NYC matches provide 6 times more money to the candidate. So a $10 contribution becomes $70. Politicians always like to point out how many small contributions they receive. They never get bad press for those. Remember, the reports of our death have been greatly exaggerated. Most yellow cabs are still on the road, providing reliable predictably priced rides to the public. There are numerous lawsuits pending. Any one of them could be a gamechanger. Stay tuned. Leave a Reply. |
